About the organization

Founded in 1965 in Houston, Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international, non-profit organization that provides unparalleled leadership and community service opportunities for young people while concurrently contributing to the well-being of hundreds of communities throughout the Americas.

Supported by a strong network of Pan-American chapters, high school and college students from diverse backgrounds work successfully with host communities and partner agencies to address health and education priorities.

AMIGOS Volunteers immerse themselves in the lives of their host communities and truly experience collaborative development work. During its 43-year history, more than 20,000 AMIGOS Volunteers have gained a life-long commitment to community service, while strengthening multicultural understanding and friendships in the Americas.

Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) builds partnerships to empower young leaders, advance community development and strengthen multicultural understanding in the Americas.

 

VISION

AMIGOS operates quality, youth-led programs throughout the Americas which improve the health and well-being of millions. Supported by a vigorous network of Pan-American chapters and partner agencies and a sound financial base, youth from diverse backgrounds and from throughout the Americas challenge themselves and expand their world view by participating in self-directed, meaningful service with communities different from their own.

ABOUT THE EAST BAY CHAPTER:

The East Bay Chapter of Amigos de las Americas prepares teens from Contra Costa County and Alameda County to become AMIGOS volunteers during the summer. The Chapter is run by a local board made up of dedicated local adult volunteers who oversee recruiting, fundraising and parent support. Most board members served as an AMIGOS Volunteer or Volunteer parent.
