Letter

A note from Will:

Hi, I'm Will Burkett. You may know me as the son of Amy and Alan. I am a junior at Albany High School and I am participating in a program called Amigos de las Américas.  AMIGOS is a non-profit, non-religious youth leadership program that sends kids my age to Latin America. I will be doing community service and living with a local host family within the community. The AMIGOS mission is to develop youth leaders and to create sustainable positive change within a community. AMIGOS also aims for full cultural immersion and cultural exchange. You can learn more at www.amigosinternational.org

As an AMIGOS volunteer, I will be living with a host family in a Latin American country and collaborating with community leaders in a community service project. I will be fully immersed in the Spanish language and culture while I am there and teaching camps for local youth. I don't find out where I am going until late February, but I am hoping to go to Panama, the Dominican Republic, or Mexico.

The reason I am writing this letter is to ask for donations. If you are thinking about donating here are some examples to show what different amounts of money could help accomplish.

$10 can buy paint for a mural or buys 30 toothbrushes
$45 can supply a water tank for safe drinking water
$250 can purchase seeds for family gardens in 20 or more communities

There is also a fee which each family is responsible for paying. Your contributions can also provide financial help to those want to do the program but need some assistance.

I am writing to request that you consider a donation to AMIGOS. If you would like to donate to AMIGOS, you can do so here. Please click on the “Donate Now” button below or on our home page, http://www.eastbayamigos.org. Contributions made by donors are tax-deductible. Amigos de las Américas is exempt from Federal income tax as an organization described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Thank you for reading this letter. I will write back at the end of the summer and share how it went.

Will
